For Catherine Neumayr, a seventh-generation rancher, every March has been dominated by the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.
“I’ve been alive for 42 years, and every March has been the same,” Neumayr told the Houston Business Journal on a tour of the 4,000-acre V8 Ranch, located about 55 miles southwest of downtown Houston in Hungerford in Wharton County. She runs the ranch with her parents, husband and several other family members.
Her grandfather, Sloan Williams, bought V8 Ranch in 1971 from a Ford dealer, who named the ranch in 1944 after the internal combustion engine the brand was the first to mass produce. Today, however, many think it was named after the popular juice brand.
“A lot of people think it’s (named after) tomato juice or something, but it’s actually named after the Ford engine,” Neumayr said.
