Injuries have been the norm for Inter Miami this season. In fact, it was just a week ago that Lionel Messi missed the Orlando City encounter due to a knee issue. Hence, fans were not expecting much good news in Martino’s latest presser. As expected, it has been confirmed that the Herons will be without 2 key players for a long time. But there is a lot of excitement as Martino announced that a fan favorite is set to return to the side imminently.
Tata Martino confirmed that midfielder Federico Redondo will make his return from injury within the next 2 games. Martino said, “In the case of Fede [Redondo] if he doesn’t travel to Vancouver this weekend, he will be fully ready for Atlanta afterwards.” The defensive midfielder joined Inter Miami in February 2024. Being the son of legendary player Fernando Redondo, expectations were high on the 21-year-old. Furthermore, European giants like Real Madrid and Bayern Munich were also reportedly keen on the talented youngster.
Unfortunately, a collateral ligament injury meant that he was restricted to just 4 appearances for Inter Miami. Redondo’s return is good news for Sergio Busquets as the veteran can be given a rest. Martino also had an update on Paraguayan star Diego Gomez. Gomez was stretched off in the Nashville game on April 20 and the injury didn’t look good. It was later confirmed to be a high-grade ankle sprain and now Martino added, “He still has several weeks of recovery left.” While Gomez is still expected to play a part this season, teammate Nicolas Freire is not so lucky.

The injury nightmare continues for Inter Miami defender Nicolas Freire
Nicolas Freire is a versatile defender who plays center-back while also doing a job at left-back. Therefore, there was a lot of excitement when Inter Miami announced the defender on a 1-year loan deal. However, the transfer hasn’t lived up to the expectations. Freire suffered a hamstring injury soon in his Miami tenure. And now, it has been confirmed that the defender has suffered an ACL injury in his right leg!
Freire was injured in the 1-0 win over DC United. The Argentine star is set to undergo surgery at Baptist Health, which will rule him out for the rest of the season. This could also be curtains for his Miami career as it is hard to see how the management will extend a player who has availability issues. Regardless, who do you think should be Inter Miami’s center-back pairing for the rest of the season? Let us know below.
