Iowa State football ranks eighth in assistant coaches’ compensation among the 13 Big 12 Conference teams that reported their salary information to USA TODAY Sports.
USA TODAY obtained the information from the schools through open-records requests. Texas Christian, Baylor and Brigham Young are private schools and are not required to report their finances.
Iowa State is paying its assistant coaches $4,460,000 this year. Defensive coordinator Jon Heacock is the Cyclones‘ highest-paid assistant at $1,200,000.
Utah leads all Big 12 schools with $8,275,000 in compensation for its assistants.
Those numbers do not include strength coaches’ pay. Iowa State strength coach Reid Kagy is earning $375,000 this year, which ranks seventh among the 12 schools that reported their numbers to USA TODAY Sports.
Kansas strength coach Matt Gildersleeve’s total compensation is unavailable because he is an employee of Kansas Team Health with the University of Kansas Health System, which is not obligated to provide his compensation.
