Whether you go to dance or immerse yourself in Hispanic culture, Jersey City Theater Center’s Raíces y Ritmos is offering something for everyone as they celebrate Hispanic heritage on Saturday, Oct. 5, at 7 p.m.
Raíces y Ritmos, organized by Siara Mirabel and Juana Penson, is an evening celebrating Hispanic music, art, and storytelling while highlighting the deep cultural roots (raíces) and vibrant rhythms (ritmos) that define the Hispanic community.
The event will feature performances from acclaimed artists, including singer-songwriter Giselle Bellas and performances of Los Hermanos Garcia Band.
“Raíces y Ritmos” is a celebration of identity, history and unity,” said Olga Levina, executive producer of Jersey City Theater Center. “Through this event, we aim to honor the heritage of Hispanic communities and bring people together through shared experiences of music and storytelling. It is not just a performance; it is a tribute to the rich legacies that continue to shape our society and future.”
Following this, audiences can experience the Bread & Puppet Theater as they bring their politically charged show, “The Beginning After the End of Humanity Circus,” to Jersey City on Friday, Oct. 11, at 7 p.m.
The performance comes with stilt dancers, paper maché creatures and a brass band all addressing contemporary social and political issues in a celebratory and thought-provoking performance.
Following the performance, Bread & Puppets will share their famous sourdough rye bread with aioli and an opportunity to purchase “Cheap Art” memorabilia.
