Take a sigh of relief, New York Yankees fans. The initial prognosis on the injury to superstar Juan Soto is good news.

The New York Post’s Jon Heyman reported on Friday that the initial report from the MRI is just inflammation, which is great news for Soto and the Yankees. Heyman said a radiologist will review it to be sure, but it sounds like there’s no serious injury for the 25-year-old superstar.

Soto left the Yankees vs. Minnesota Twins game on Thursday night in the top of the sixth inning after a 56-minute rain delay with what the team called left forearm discomfort.

The Yankees haven’t released a lineup yet, but here’s a video of Soto arriving to Yankee Stadium on Friday:

Soto is in the midst of an MVP-like season in his first year in the Bronx. The 25-year-old is slashing 318/.424/.603 with a 1.027 OPS. He also has 17 home runs, 53 RBIs, and 46 walks.

Soto enters Wednesday tied with his teammate, Aaron Judge, for first in the entire MLB with 4.1 fWAR. He also has an incredibly impressive 190 wRC+.

Soto, who was acquired by the Yankees from the San Diego Padres this past offseason, is entering free agency at the end of this season. He’s made it known how happy he is playing in New York, but he also said he wouldn’t be closing any doors in free agency. He’s widely expected to earn a contract that surpasses $500 million.

Fortunately, it sounds like he isn’t dealing with a serious injury, which is great news for everyone involved.

The Yankees are getting set to host Shohei Ohtani and the Los Angeles Dodgers in a highly-anticipated three-game series in New York starting on Friday night. We’ll see if Soto is able to play in this star-studded matchup.
