Massive crowds are expected at this weekend’s Pride Parade in Boston.“We expect a lot of people. Mostly people who are there to celebrate the queer community and some people to protest but, you know, pride has always been partly a protest so we welcome that,” said Gary Daffin with Boston Pride for the People. The Pride parade is Saturday, falling on the same day as “No Kings Day of Action” protest.Saturday is also President Donald Trump’s birthday and he is planning a military parade in Washington, D.C.“We are here to stand up and still say, ‘America has no kings.’ So while he is throwing this grandiose and incredibly expensive military style parade we will be in our own parade in our community in solidarity with the LGBTQ people,” Rebecca Winter of Mass 50501 said. “This is going to be a joyful protest where we get together as a community in solidarity to uplift this group that the administration is trying to erase.”Pride organizers say they want to send a message of defiance in the face of what they’re calling “increased political attacks.” The groups Mass 50501 and Indivisible will also be joining the parade in a show of support. “We have always been resilient, we have always fought and we’ve usually won and we’re not going anywhere,” said Daffin. “We’re here to stay.”
