A handful of the most influential college basketball media members descended on Indianapolis Thursday to go through a full mock NCAA Tournament selection process.
That process resulted with Louisville earning a No. 5 seed and being the mock committee’s No. 20 overall team.
Here’s the top 20 seed list the group came up with:
The final bracket has Louisville as a 5-seed taking on 12-seed High Point (the nation’s highest-scoring team) in what would be an electric first round matchup. Should the Cards advance, another offensive-minded team — No. 4 seed Alabama — would likely be waiting in the second round.
A number of interesting items came out during Thursday’s events, but this one regarding “wins above bubble” stood out to me as far as U of L’s current interests are concerned.
Why is this a big deal? The predictive metrics are MUCH kinder to Louisville right now than wins above bubble, where the Cards currently sit at No. 22. Compare that to Ken Pom (15), the NET (14), Torvik (15) and BPI (10), which all have Louisville as a top 15 team.
If the significance of wins above bubble is mostly going to be limited to which teams make the field, and the significance of predictive metrics is going to take precedence during the seeding process, that’s likely going to be a good thing for Louisville three Sundays from now.
