LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — LSU reclaimed its throne atop college baseball Sunday afternoon, beating Coastal Carolina 5-3 to win its second national championship in three years.
The Tigers outhit the Chanticleers 10-8 at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha, while Coastal Carolina committed two errors.
Coastal Carolina came into the final series against LSU on a 26-game winning streak, but dropped two consecutive games to the Tigers to go home empty handed.
Ethan Frey racked up three hits for the Tigers, while Chris Stanfield and Derek Curiel each tallied two RBIs.
Dean Mihos led the Chanticleers with a 3-for-4 showing from the plate. Senior outfielder Wells Sykes led Coastal with two RBIs.
Anthony Eyanson led the Tigers on the mound, pitching 6.1 innings while giving up seven hits and three runs. The junior right hander also fanned nine batters.
Coastal’s Jacob Morrison got the start for the Chanticleers, but was chased out of the game after giving up six hits and five runs in 3.2 innings.
Coastal Carolina started the scoring in the bottom of the second inning, getting a solo home run from Mihos to make the score 1-0.
But the Tigers immediately answered. Frey smoked a double to left field, scoring Daniel Dickinson and tying the game 1-1.
LSU’s bats came to life in the top of the fourth inning.
Stanfield hit a two-RBI single to left field to give the Tigers a 3-1 lead. A two-RBI single from Curiel extended the Tigers’ lead to 5-1.
The Chanticleers were able to answer in the bottom of the seventh inning, getting a two-run homer from Wells Sykes to make the score 5-3 Tigers.
Coastal Carolina coach Kevin Schnall and first base coach Matt Schilling were ejected in the bottom of the first inning after an argument with head umpire Angel Campos.

This is the second title for LSU in three years, last winning the national championship in 2023.
That roster was headlined by MLB All-Star Paul Skenes and Washington Nationals outfielder Dylan Crews.
LSU finished its 2025 campaign with a 52-15 record and expect sophomore pitcher Kade Anderson to be the No. 1 pick in the 2025 MLB Draft.
