Two teams from the Marine Academy of Technology and Environmental Science (MATES) won the top two awards at the NJ Envirothon in May.
MATES Team 1, which included students Amalie Werner, Mags Kelleher, Matthew Thomas, Aarya Sood, and Bella Morgan, placed first overall and won the Aquatics, Forestry, and Current Issue.
MATES Team 2, which included Arushi Sood, Tyler Steinbrunn, Jason Batin, Rhea Dudhwala, and Isabel Kopsaftis, placed second overall and won Wildlife.

The MATES teams are led by Dave Werner and Adam Sprague.
The teams are moving on to compete at the National Conservation Foundation Envirothon in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, from July 20-26.
This year’s theme is “Roots and Resiliency: Fostering Forest Stewardship in a Canopy of Change”. The NCF-Envirothon is North America’s largest high school environmental education competition, with students from the United States, Canada, China, and Singapore participating.
