We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Pilar Torres. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Pilar below.
Pilar, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What was it like going from idea to execution? Can you share some of the backstory and some of the major steps or milestones?
TORRES CONTRERAS LEGAL & TAX LLC began when I realized how many Latino families and small businesses were struggling with legal and tax issues simply because they didn’t have access to clear, trustworthy guidance in Spanish. I kept hearing the same frustrations, and I knew I could help.
With that in mind, I registered the business, set up the legal structure, and built a service model focused on transparency, education, and personalized support. Launching meant learning fast—everything from compliance to systems to client communication—but those early challenges helped shape the company.
Once we opened our doors, the response confirmed the need. Clients came through referrals, and each one reinforced our mission: to empower the Latino community with reliable legal and tax services they can trust.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m Pilar Torres‑Contreras, founder of TORRES CONTRERAS LEGAL & TAX LLC. I started my business because I saw how many Latino families and small business owners were struggling with taxes, legal forms, and government processes due to language barriers and lack of clear guidance.
I provide tax preparation, small‑business setup, bookkeeping, and support with legal documents—all explained in simple, respectful Spanish. What sets me apart is my commitment to educating and empowering our community, not just completing paperwork.
My mission is to help clients feel confident, informed, and supported every step of the way. Aqui estamos para servir a nuestra comunidad con corazón y confianza.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Early in my business, a client came to me terrified after receiving several IRS notices. Her taxes had been mishandled for years, and she believed she owed an amount she could never pay. My business was still new, but I was determined to help her.
I spent long hours reviewing her paperwork, researching her case, and advocating for her with the IRS. It wasn’t easy—there were setbacks and moments where the situation felt overwhelming. But I kept going.
In the end, we resolved everything and reduced her balance to almost nothing. Seeing her relief reminded me why I do this work. That experience taught me that resilience is about staying committed, even when the solution isn’t clear yet.

Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
I met Taneka Tate when we worked at the same place, and we quickly realized we shared the same work ethic and commitment to serving our community. As we got to know each other, I saw the passion and professionalism she poured into her own company, Assure Financial Solutions LLC.
We often talked about the challenges our clients faced and how much they needed clear, trustworthy guidance. Those conversations showed us that our values aligned perfectly. Over time, our respect for each other grew, and our shared mission naturally turned us from coworkers into collaborators.
That connection eventually helped strengthen the foundation of our business
