BOSTON, Mass. — The Bridgewater State University men’s indoor track & field team competed on Saturday at the non-scoring Suffolk Relays held at The Track at New Balance.
The meat featured student-athletes from all three NCAA divisions as well as members of track clubs and unattached competitors.
Chigozie Adigwe (Lowell, Mass.) placed second in the 60-meter hurdles with a finals time of 8.44 seconds. Junior Ryker King (Wareham, Mass.) finished 11th in the preliminaries of the 60 hurdles with a time of 8.95 seconds.
Junior Kyle Ackroyd (Charlestown, R.I.) placed fourth in the 5,000-meter run with a personal-besr time of 15:23.26.
Freshman Alex Huynh (Stoughton, Mass.) posted a person-best long jump mark of 22 feet, 4.5 inches (6.82m) to place fifth in the event. Huynh also placed fifth in the high jump with a personal-best leap of six feet, 4.75 inches (1.95m) as he was less than a foot shy of Exondus Barnes‘ school indoor mark of six feet, 5.5 inches (1.97m) set in 2020.
Sophomore Matthew Mooney (Douglas, Mass.) finished 12th in the long jump with a personal-best mark of 20 feet, 9.75 inches (6.34m) while junior Chris Beaulieu (Monson, Mass.) was 20th (19’11.5″/6.08m). Mooney also placed eighth in the 200-meter dash with a personal-best time of 22.12 seconds. Graduate student Mason Matias (New Bedford, Mass.) finished 18th (22.57) in the 200.
Sophomore Shaun Humberd (Plymouth, Mass.) and senior Stephen Spofford (Chelmsford, Mass.) placed fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 400-meter dash. Humberd posted a personal-besr time of 50.14 seconds in the event while Spofford completed the race in 50.64 seconds. Junior Nicholas Grace (Acushnet, Mass.) checked in at 11th with a personall-best time of 51.62 seconds in the 400, while senior Charles Dakai (Millville, Mass.) finished 18th and Beaulieu was 19th (52.87).
Grace added a 12th-place showing in the triple jump as he recorded a leap of 38 feet, 1.5 inches (11.62m).
Senior Kevin McBirney (East Bridgewater, Mass.) was the 20th runner to cross the finish line in the mile as he posted a time of 4:25.89.
The Bears’ relay squad featuring Adigwe, King, McBirney and Ackroyd placed sixth in the 1,650-meter sprint medley relay with a time of 3:47.85. The quartet of Grace, Matias, sophomore Brian Vale (Assonet, Mass.) and junior Mitchell Parent (Cumberland Center, Maine) finished just off their teammates’ pace posting a time of 3:47.99 to finish seventh.

Adigwe, Huynh (HJ, LJ), Mooney (LJ, 200), Humberd and Spofford and recorded Division III New England Championships qualifying times or marks. Adigwe and Huynh (HJ, LJ) also qualified for the NEICAAA Championships.
The indoor season continues for the BSU track & field teams next Saturday as the Bears travel to Tufts University for the Branwen Smith-King Invitational.
