It’s quiet — too quiet. As it turns out, the hot stove can take some time to heat up.
Major League Baseball‘s free agency period is open, but league activity has been eerily quiet thus far.
The No. 1 headliner as of Nov. 24 has been Josh Naylor, who agreed to return to the Seattle Mariners via a five-year, $92.5 million deal. With Naylor, the Mariners advanced to the ALCS, falling just short to the Toronto Blue Jays.
Many of the top-tier free agents in this class — first baseman Pete Alonso, outfielder Cody Bellinger, shortstop Bo Bichette, third baseman Alex Bregman, right-handed pitchers Dylan Cease and Michael King, left-handed pitcher Framber Valdez and outfielder Kyle Tucker — remain on the market, as the league waits for the snowball to start rolling.
A few players became intriguing additions to this winter’s free agency, including outfielder Adolis Garcia, as 66 players were non-tendered by their respective teams.
That list included three players from the Guardians, who opted to not tender contracts to outfielder Will Brennan, left-handed reliever Sam Hentges and right-handed reliever Nic Enright.
