The two League Championship Series continue to play out in relatively different ways …
The Yankees now have a commanding lead in the ALCS, but the path getting there has featured some really exciting games. Last night’s was no exception, with the Guardians battling back to tie things in the 8th inning, only to see the Yankees take the lead right back in the 9th.
It was the Yankees getting to Emmanuel Clase for the second time, by the way, and you wonder if the Guardians’ EXTREMELY heavy usage of their closer this year is now coming home to roost.
The game, by the way, was a great example of how power can change everything. The Guardians had more hits than the Yankees, took more walks than the Yankees, and struck out way less than the Yankees … but the Yankees hit three homers and the Guardians hit none. Six of the Yankees’ runs came on those three homers, and that was that.

The Mets stayed alive by lighting up the Dodgers’ pitching. This entire series has been blowouts or near-blowouts, with the closest game being a four-run difference. I guess if you like lots of offense, then it’s been fun, but really no thrilling games.
