Michael Porter Jr. offered a heartfelt goodbye to the city of Denver on YouTube Wednesday, in a video he posted where he detailed how he found out he was traded to the Brooklyn Nets for Cameron Johnson earlier this month.
MPJ is a legendary Denver Nuggets player, a starter on the franchise’s lone championship team, and was one of Nikola Jokic’s longest tenured teammates. He shared how he was upset his last taste of playing for the Nuggets came with a severe shoulder injury that left him playing the postseason with one arm. But bigger, Porter shared his gratitude for Denver, both the city and the organization, for taking a chance on him as a kid with a back issue coming into the league.
Porter said he had talked to new Nuggets executive Jonathan Wallace just days before the deal, and brass shared some ideas for how he and the team could get better. Ultimately, MPJ felt his game has plateaued, and he’s looking forward to possibly expanding his game in Brooklyn. He found out about the trade on his way to vacation in Europe, getting texts from both the Nuggets and his agent since he couldn’t take a call on the flight.
Porter says he and Johnson are good friends and may swap houses with each other. He says he’s excited for Johnson to compete for a championship and that Nuggets fans should be excited about the player they’re getting.
Nuggets fans should watch the full video. Porter let a lot of thoughts out, including a ton of love for Michael Malone and Tim Connelly as well as a shoutout to Jamal Murray and Jokic.
