The NCAA men’s hockey tournament began Thursday with regional games at the DCU Center in Worcester and in Sioux Falls, S.D.
None of the four Beanpot schools qualified to be one of the 16 teams in the field for the first time since 1981, but New England was well represented.
Merrimack, winner of the Hockey East tournament, faced No. 2 seed North Dakota late Thursday. Providence, winner of the Hockey East regular season title, lost to Quinnipiac, while UConn and Dartmouth both lost in Worcester Thursday; Bentley, winner of the AHA tournament, faces top-seeded Michigan on Friday.
