SEC teams facing pressure ahead of NCAA softball tournament
Missouri must win it all, while Georgia and Alabama need deep SEC runs to stay in the mix.
Back in early February, 300 Division I softball teams entered the 2025 season with hopes of winning a national championship, far-fetched of a goal as it is for many programs.
By the end of the weekend, that dream will live on for 64 teams.
The selection show for the 2025 NCAA softball tournament will air Sunday, with invitees and matchups unveiled for the 64-team bracket that will determine who makes it to the eight-team Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City.
Oklahoma, which entered conference tournament week as the No. 2 team in the country, is aiming to win its fifth consecutive national title. Its four championships in a row are already the most in NCAA softball history.
If coach Patty Gasso’s Sooners don’t end up extending their historic run, it’s likely someone from their conference will win it all. In the latest USA Softball poll, six of the top seven teams were from the SEC, including No. 1 Texas A&M.
What teams will make the NCAA Tournament cut? What will be the matchups and the seeds? What potential upsets lurk? After months of waiting, all of those questions will soon be answered.
