LINCOLN, Neb. — Nebraska secured its first Class of 2027 commitment on Thursday when four-star quarterback Trae Taylor picked the Cornhuskers.
Taylor, 6 feet 3 and 190 pounds, plays at Carmel Catholic High School in Mundelein, Ill. He visited Lincoln for the fourth time last week and chose the Huskers over other finalists LSU, Illinois and Texas A&M.
Taylor ranks No. 35 overall and the No. 3 quarterback in the class in the 247Sports Composite. As a sophomore, he completed 67.7 percent of his passes for 3,061 yards and 20 touchdowns with seven interceptions while rushing for 342 yards.
The list of suitors for Taylor also included Michigan, Miami, Oklahoma and Ole Miss.

His pledge provides a jump for coach Matt Rhule and his staff on the 2027 class. The Huskers will entertain numerous visitors in June from the high school classes of 2026 and ’27 around camp sessions and recruiting weekends.
The Huskers have collected three commitments for the 2026 class, including quarterback Dayton Raiola of Buford, Ga. He is the brother of Dylan Raiola, a returning starter as a sophomore in 2025.
The elder Raiola helped recruit Taylor to Nebraska.
Quarterback depth for the Huskers appears strong with two commits secured and backups on the roster in senior Jalyn Gramstad, Marcos Davila, a redshirt freshman transfer from Purdue, and true freshman TJ Lateef. Lateef was a four-star signee in the 2025 class out of Compton, Calif.
