SUMMIT, N.J. — Neutrogena is recalling one of its popular makeup-removing wipes because of a potential bacterial contamination.
The recall affects 15,000 packages of the company’s Makeup Remover Ultra-Soft Cleansing Towelettes distributed in some states following detection of a bacteria that could pose a health risk.
The recall covers one batch lot number — 1835U6325A — shipped to stores in Texas, Georgia, South Carolina and Florida. The wipes tested positive for a germ that causes skin or eye irritation.
The FDA has labeled it a Class 2 recall, meaning the risk is moderate but that most people are unlikely to get seriously sick.
Neutrogena’s parent company, Kenvue, said it’s acting out of an abundance of caution.
The source of the contamination has not yet been identified, and it’s not known if any illnesses have been reported. The bacteria could cause serious infections for people with weakened immune systems.
Anyone who purchased the product is asked to check the lot number and either toss out ones with the corresponding number or return them to the store where they were purchased. Anyone who notices irritation after using the wipes should call a doctor.
