In the early 2010s, a production that would become widely acclaimed came to life on small screens in the U.S., led by DCU’s Frank Grillo. Titled Kingdom, the series premiered on October 8, 2014, on the since-defunct Audience Network with Season 1 comprising ten episodes that ended on December 10, 2014. Seasons 2 and 3 also aired on the channel, with the show ultimately ending in 2017, after which it was added to several streamers in the U.S., including Disney+, Netflix, and Peacock. Less than ten years later, the gripping drama gets a new streaming home, but not where you’re thinking.
Two years after the show debuted in the U.S., it made its way to the UK in 2016, where fans were only able to watch it for a limited time. Now, Kingdom is streaming once again in the UK, but this time on Prime Video, and only Seasons 1 and 3. Season 2, on the other hand, which originally aired on Audience Network in two parts, is not included with Prime memberships and will have to be purchased separately.
After a successful premiere, the mixed martial arts series was renewed for an additional twenty episodes on October 17, 2014, making up Season 2. Ten of these episodes were broadcast from October 14 to December 16, 2015, while the remaining ten ran from June 1 to August 3, 2016. Kingdom was then renewed again for a third season on July 7, 2016, and premiered on May 31, 2017. A month prior, it was announced that the third season would be the last for the show, with the series finale airing months later on August 2, 2017.
Who Stars in ‘Kingdom’?
In Kingdom, Grillo plays Alvey Kulina, a retired fighter who is at the center of the series as the owner of an MMA gym called Navy St. Gym in Venice, California. Alvey develops the next generation of fighters, including his sons Jay and Nate, while struggling to keep the business afloat. Jonathan Tucker stars as Jay Kulina, Alvey’s loudmouthed older son, whom his father sees as the screw-up in the family. Portraying the younger Kulina son, Nate, was Nick Jonas, a closeted gay man and an upcoming fighter who, after an attack, is put on the back bench. Others in the main cast are Kiele Sanchez, Matt Lauria, Joanna Going, and Natalie Martinez, who was introduced in Season 2.
Kingdom is available to watch on Prime Video in the UK. Stay tuned to Collider for more streaming news.
