Final – Patriots 48, Commanders 18
The final seconds have ticked off the clock in Foxborough as the Patriots open the preseason with a 30-point win over the Commanders.
While a loss like this is never fun, Washington should not fret, considering almost none of its starters played tonight. Jeremy McNichols, who saw time last season, rushed for 18 yards and a score on three carries while Ja’Corey Brooks led the Commanders in receiving, reeling in five catches for 59 yards. Tonight’s starting quarterback, Sam Hartman, was rather pedestrian, completing nine of his 19 pass attempts for 64 yards with an interception.
For New England, it seemed like whoever was put on the field was ready to dominate. TreVeyon Henderson set the tone from the outset, returning the opening kick for a 100-yard touchdown on his first NFL touch. Drake Maye played one series, completing three of five passes and scoring a rushing touchdown. In the latter stages, Efton Chism III played well, reeling in six catches for 50 yards and a score.
