WARSAW, N.Y. — One person was killed in a snowmobile crash in Western New York, the New York State Police announced on Monday.
The state police said that troopers were dispatched to a private road in the Town of Warsaw, Wyoming County, around 12:12 p.m. on Feb. 8.
An investigation determined that a 2012 Ski Doo headed south on a marked trail lost control and struck a log pile, ejecting its operator, Steven J. Gregorie, 17, of Varysburg, N.Y. His friend, a 16-year-old operating a 2015 Arctic Cat, was behind him.
The state police said the 16-year-old also lost control, left the trail and struck the same log pile. He was also ejected. His Arctic Cat came to a rest on Gregorie. People who were not involved called 911.
Police said Gregorie was taken to Wyoming County Community Hospital via ambulance. He was pronounced dead at the hospital. The Monroe County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy on Gregorie.
Police noted that there are no signs of foul play.
