The Patriots enter the regional meet with strong momentum following standout performances at the Atlantic 10 Championships on November 1 in Cedarville, Ohio. Ella Semple captured the individual A-10 title in the women’s 6K, becoming the third George Mason woman in program history to win the conference crown. On the men’s side, Biruk Beardsley and Lloyd Sheppard-Brown both earned First Team All-Conference honors, finishing fifth and 13th respectively to lead the Patriots to an impressive team finish.
Head Coach Andrew Gerard praised his team’s growth and outlined the challenge that awaits in one of the most competitive regions in the country.
“Coming off of a very credible team race at A10’s, we’re very focused on seeing where we stack up in the Region,” said Gerard. “Typically, our region is one of the deepest and strongest in the NCAA with as many as six teams advancing to the NCAA Championship (almost 20% of the whole NCAA field) in any given year, so the challenge for us is, literally, seeing where we measure up nationally.”
The NCAA Southeast Regional will bring together national powerhouses from the ACC, SEC, and other top conferences, providing the Patriots with a premier opportunity to compete against some of the nation’s best programs.
With strong momentum from their recent conference success, both Patriot squads are poised to close out their seasons with strong showings on the regional stage.
