Wyomissing-based Penn Entertainment Inc. marked the opening of its newest casino this week. Hollywood Casino Joliet, in Joliet Ill. is a $185 million land-based casino that replaces the company’s former riverboat property that had operated on the shores of the Des Plaines River since 1992.
“After approximately 20 months of construction, we are thrilled to open the doors to this land-based entertainment destination,” Jay Snowden, CEO and President of PENN Entertainment, said in a statement. He added Penn Entertainment is proud of its 30-year history in the Joliet area.
The 189,000-square-foot property, which opened on Monday, employs about 600, and generated 450 construction jobs during development of the property, according to a press release.
Hollywood Casino Joliet’s gaming floor features 1,000 reel slot and video poker machines, as well as 43 table games, the company said. It also includes an ESPN BET sportsbook, several new restaurants and bars, event center and meeting space.
Todd George, executive vice president of operations for Penn, said the opening of Hollywood Casino Joliet marks a “new era” of entertainment in Joliet.
“We look forward to delivering an elevated experience with world class dining, entertainment, and gaming options for patrons across the region,” George said in a statement.
Penn Entertainment closed its Hollywood Casino Joliet riverboat property on July 29, in preparation for the opening of the new property.
Penn Entertainment Inc. operates in 28 jurisdictions throughout North America. Among its four Pennsylvania properties are: Hollywood Casino Morgantown, Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course, and Hollywood Casino York. The company’s portfolio includes casinos, racetracks and online sports betting and iCasino offerings.
