Another day, another daily. We’ve got plenty to talk about on the 1/12 edition of the PhHN Daily.
The Flyers are hosting the Tampa Bay Lightning for the second time in as many games. An injury update has been provided as Philadelphia gets set for its Monday night showdown.
Around the league, we have NHL trade rumors, a mite fight, and more on the Devils’ drama.
Get it all on the 1/12 edition of the PhHN Daily!
Philadelphia Flyers
Philly Hockey Now: We’re at the point in the season where the injuries are starting to pile up for the Flyers. The team was without Bobby Brink, Jamie Drysdale, and Travis Konecny on Saturday vs. the Lightning.
Now, ahead of Monday’s round two with Tampa, the Flyers were already without Drysdale, who hit IR. Head coach Rick Tocchet said that Bobby Brink remains out, and Travis Konecny will be a game-time decision after taking a shot to the knee at practice on Sunday, leaving practice early.
It’s been a while since the last daily. Since then, the Flyers re-signed Christian Dvorak to a five-year extension. There are plenty of concerns around the contract, but when you break it down, the deal just makes sense.
Elsewhere around the Flyers, Porter Martone is back from World Juniors and is once again dominating in the NCAA. He picked up where he left off with a four-point game in his return to college play, and scored the Spartans’ lone goal in the second game of the weekend.
Porter Martone is making a legitimate Hobey Baker case.
NHL rumors & news
The Athletic ($): Who all saw that mites brawl at the Hershey Bears game the other day? Funny for all, well, except maybe the parents of the children. They were probably mortified. Well, now The Athletic is reporting that there are multiple investigations into the event.
Oilers Nation: Who wants Evader Kane? Well, apparently nobody. The Vancouver Canucks are reportedly shopping their offseason acquisition, including trying to send him back to Edmonton, but so far, there are no takers.
Pittsburgh Hockey Now: The Pittsburgh Penguins have been quietly retooling by acquiring young talent who were on the outs at their previous teams. It’s a strategy that, quite frankly, looks like it’s working for Kyle Dubas and the Penguins. Now, Dan Kingerski takes a look at what other players out there fit that trade mold.
New Jersey Hockey Now: Another daily means more talk about what is going on in New Jersey. James Nichols has been giving excellent coverage of the situation in Newark, including up-to-date news and great opinion pieces. New, Nichols writes about the “dark cloud” over the Devils.
