Philadelphia Flyers
Philly Hockey Now: The Philadelphia Flyers have struggled to start fast. That wasn’t an issue on Saturday as they got off to a scorching hot start. Philadelphia saw the benefits of it. The Flyers picked up a big 6-3 win against the New Jersey Devils.
Among many things, it was a balanced scoring attack and a promising defensive pair that really pushed the Flyers to their most complete win of the season.
The Flyers are still lacking down the middle, especially for the future. Would you take the risk on a former first-round pick with tons of skill, speed, and a good shot? One just became available. The Winnipeg Jets have given Brad Lambert permission to seek a trade. Could the Flyers be a suitor?
NHL Rumors & News
Ottawa Sun: The Ottawa Senators have played better than expected through the 20-game mark. Ottawa has been searching the trade market for a boost since the summer, with a top-six forward in mind. Now, Bruce Garrioch says it’s time for the Senators to make a splash.
Sportsnet Video: It was a busy Saturday Night Headlines for Elliotte Friedman on Hockey Night in Canada. Milan Olympics, Alex Texier talk, but nothing bigger than the bomb Friedman dropped about Carolina Hurricanes star Andrei Svechnikov. Friedman said Svechnikov, at one point, was unhappy with his role in Carolina and was open to the idea of being traded. If things don’t get better, that would be one hell of a trade market.
Pagnotta: On the Daily Faceoff Rundown, Dave Pagnotta of the Fourth Period reported that the Seattle Kraken are interested in adding a scoring winger to their top six.
Mid-season trade or not, the Flyers certainly have a logjam of wingers that they are going to have to do something about, whether that be mid-season or in the offseason. Philly and Seattle could be perfect trade partners here.
New Jersey Hockey Now: Saturday night’s 6-3 loss to the Flyers may not have been the start of the issues in New Jersey. But it seems to be what pushed things over the edge for the Devils. Head coach Sheldon Keefe called out his team after an ugly loss to the Flyers.
Sticking with the Devils, maybe Quinn Hughes could be traded earlier than we think. One Canucks insider reports that if a commitment from Hughes is not given, a trade could fix Vancouver’s problems. James Nichols writes about the possibility of the Devils reuniting the three brothers.
