For Chicago music lovers looking for something unforgettable to do this Valentine’s Day, there was really only one choice as one of the best duos in the business were in town. The Byline Bank Aragon Ballroom was the setting as Phantogram took the stage to a room full of fans on Feb. 14.
The group – comprised of Sarah Barthel and Josh Carter – dedicated much of their setlist to songs from their fifth studio album, Memory of a Day, which came out via Neon Gold Records in October of last year. “Jealousy,” a bombastic electronic rocker from the release, kicked-off the show, letting the audience know that this day of love was about to get loud. “Don’t Move” and “Fall in Love” soon followed sweeping everyone off their feet with their beguiling basslines and dreamy synths.
“Mouthful of Diamonds,” “Black Out Days,” and “Pedestal” also appeared on the evening’s setlist.
Phantogram has described creating their 2024 album as, “a capsule, thinking about how a certain sound or melody can bring you back instantly to a memory of a day.”
This Valentine’s Day will certainly be one Chicago-area Phantogram fans recall anytime they tune into the band’s intoxicating music.
