Rain showers moved through the Phoenix metro on Saturday evening as a storm passed across the state, with the potential to continue through the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.
Around 5:45 p.m., rain began affecting West Valley cities such as Buckeye, Avondale, and Goodyear, as reported by the weather service Phoenix office.
The storm was expected to bring under 0.10 inch of rain to the Phoenix area and would move northwest through the night, according to Gabriel Lojero, meteorologist.
By 6 p.m., the weather service said the rain could be expected to remain in the West Valley and expand to central Phoenix, with brief downpours and thunder to accompany windy conditions.
The storm brought colder temperatures to 73 degrees before a nightly low on Saturday of 56 degrees.
The Arizona Department of Transportation reminded drivers to take extra precautions when hitting the road in the rain, suggesting drivers leave extra braking room and travel time.
Rain could return on Sunday as another weather system moves through the state, bringing a 20% chance of showers in the morning that increases to 50% by the evening, according to the weather service.
Sunday’s high was forecasted to reach 71 degrees, with a low of 50 degrees as the storm system moves out of the Valley.
