The Boston Red Sox youth movement is reportedly continuing.
According to Tommy Cassell, the Red Sox are reportedly promoting Jhostynxon Garcia to the major leagues. He was seen getting congratulations from players and clearing out his locker in Worcester.
Garcia is ranked the Red Sox’s third overall prospect by MLB Pipeline. The outfielder is frequently referred to as “The Password” due to the complex spelling of his first name.
Across 99 games at Double-A Portland and Triple-A Worcester, Garcia hit .289 with 20 home runs. There are some questions about his plate discipline, though. He’s struck out 25.4% of the time in Worcester.
Garcia plays primarily center field, where scouts say he has good range, but also has experience playing both corner outfield spots, and recently began working at first base.

The promotion is yet to be official, but Chris Cotillo reported that Wilyer Abreu will be placed on the injured list in a corresponding move. Abreu hasn’t played since August 117, when he exited the game earlier with a calf injury.
The Red Sox begin a four-game series with the New York Yankees on Thursday.
