The Big Pod Machine: Reds vs. St. Louis Cardinals
Reds Beat Reporter Gordon Wittenmyer and Sports Reporter Pat Brennan discuss the current state of the Cincinnati Reds.
Cincinnati Reds pitching prospect Chase Petty posted late Tuesday on his Instagram story that he was expecting to make his Major League Baseball debut during the Reds’ doubleheader Wednesday against the St. Louis Cardinals at Great American Ball Park.
“Time to go,” Petty posted.
The Reds are scheduled to play a doubleheader Wednesday against St. Louis after Tuesday’s game was postponed. Brady Singer is listed as the Reds’ starter for Wednesday’s afternoon game; The Reds announced Wednesday morning that Petty has been added to the taxi squad, and is scheduled to start the doubleheader’s second game.
Petty posted a 3.52 ERA in the five starts he made this season for the Triple-A Louisville Bats. Last Wednesday, Petty tossed six shutout innings against the Iowa Cubs, allowing just one hit with two walks and seven strikeouts.
Reds prospect Tyler Callihan also posted late Tuesday that he was being promoted ahead of Wednesday’s doubleheader. Like Petty, Callihan’s first action will be his MLB debut. The Reds tweeted Wednesday morning, welcoming Callihan to the big leagues.
Petty ranks sixth among MLB Pipeline’s top Reds prospects. Petty was acquired from the Minnesota Twins in 2022 for pitcher Sonny Gray.
