SAN ANTONIO – It has been a welcome string of days with needed rainfall and temperatures running cooler than normal. We still have a small rain chance to round out the week before the weekend.
Here’s how much has fallen over the past three days including today across our viewing region and in and around Bexar County. It would have been nice to see these totals 3x to 4x higher for lakes, rivers and our aquifers but it is making a difference. The Edwards Aquifer is up about 2 feet since before the rain between rainfall recharging the aquifer and many taking a pass on irrigating giving the aquifer a break as well.
Lakes are not showing tremendous improvements at this point with small increases. Falcon Lake well down south is up just over a half foot with the largest increase. As water continues to drain into river basins, lakes may continue to rise a bit more but clearly we have a long way to go with rainfall for big changes.
Much of the rain is consumed at a surface base level from grass, trees and other plants with some lost to infiltration to the aquifer below as well
There is a decent possibility of another tropical system in the southwestern Gulf this weekend but the track is likely to move west into Mexico again keeping the best chance of widespread rain south of our region. Although, there are signs a few hit or miss showers could scrape across our region this weekend but certainly not the kind of rain we’d like to see.
