In July, MySA reported that Griff’s Hamburgers would undergo a $600,000 renovation based on a project details page filed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. At the time, the Southside burger joint did not respond to requests for comment about how construction may impact the business, but a recent Facebook post shows Griff’s has pressed pause on burgers temporarily.
On Monday, September 29, Facebook user Cassie Jewels posted a video to the San Antonio Restaurants group showing a sign on the Griff’s drive-thru menu that says, “Closed for interior remodel. Will re-open October 13th, 2025.” MySA drove by Griff’s on Tuesday, September 30, and found the same sign on the drive-thru, which is also hanging on various sides of the building.

MySA attempted to contact Griff’s Hamburgers directly to find out more about the interior remodel, but the restaurant’s phone number was disconnected. We also sent an email to the address listed on Griff’s website, but we did not receive a response at the time of publishing.
Griff’s Hamburgers has been a fixture on San Antonio’s Southside since 1963, just a few years after the Midwest-based burger chain was founded under its original name, Griff’s Burger Bar. The company maintains eight locations in Texas and three in Louisiana, according to its website. Folks have long visited the Griff’s in San Antonio for its burger combos, which remain affordably under $10. We will continue to monitor the progress of our local Griff’s Hamburgers as construction continues.
