A popular Italian deli in the northwest suburbs just landed on Yelp’s list of the “Top 100 Sandwich Shops” in the nation for 2025, with two Chicago spots also making the list.
The ranking marks the dining review website’s “first-ever” Top 100 Sandwich List based on reviews. The list was created after editors identified businesses in the “sandwich” category on Yelp and then ranked the spots using a number of factors, including total volume and ratings of reviews.
The list spans pretzel buns, garlic bread and fresh ciabatta across the U.S., with sandwiches including pickled vegetables, olive tapenade chutneys and pates, Yelp said.
Chicago Italian Beef makes its first appearance on the list in the top 10, but the restaurant isn’t local. Instead, Chicago Paulie’s, a gas station-adjacent walk-up in Tampa, Florida, came in at No. 6.
Omarcito’s Latin Cafe in Logan Square, known for its Latin Street Food and Jibarito’s, came in No. 36, followed by Venezuelan spot 11 Degrees North in Lakeview at No. 62.
But the final Illinois sandwich shop to make the list wasn’t in Chicago.
Instead, Finuccio & Sons Italian Deli and Catering, in suburban Schaumburg, came in at No. 76.
The deli, at 1612 E. Algonquin Rd., has a near-perfect rating on Yelp, with reviewers praising the homemade meatballs items along with sandwiches, pasta and wine.
“Absolutely tremendous Italian deli and sandwich joint. They bake their own bread, and have delicious prosciutto, cheeses and other meats,” one review said. “Service is super friendly and helpful and the place smells wonderful. A really nice departure from all the corporate fast food places nearby!”
According to its site, the deli is a “made-from-scratch experience.”
“Offering everything from meatball sandwiches to handmade cannolis, the care and attention given to the creation of the food translates directly into the care and attention of the love of the food.”
