A senior dog was “confused” after her longtime owners surrendered her — then came good news.
After waiting more than 100 days in a Florida animal shelter, Penny the “sweet” pup finally has a new home.
“The staff was SO excited that Penny got adopted,” the Humane Society of Tampa Bay told McClatchy News in a May 20 email. “Everyone saw her adorable personality and was so thrilled that someone else did too.”
Penny, described as a “quiet” 9-year-old pup, arrived at the shelter in January.
“Penny was with her previous owners her entire life, but they had to surrender her when their new baby developed allergies,” the shelter wrote in a Facebook post. “Penny has been so confused since being here.”
Penny is sometimes shy around strangers, and the shelter believes she was overlooked due to her timidness. She spent 119 days at the humane society, becoming its longest resident.
But the dog’s luck recently took a turn when a grandmother saw her online adoption profile. She had been looking for a calm, older dog and couldn’t wait to meet Penny.
So the woman drove roughly 20 miles to the shelter and discovered “just how loyal of a girl Penny will be once they build trust.” She later adopted Penny, to the delight of several people who read the heartwarming story on Facebook.
