Avondale City Councilmember Gloria Solorio was elected to the National League of Cities Board of Directors during the organization’s 2025 City Summit in Salt Lake City, Utah. Solorio will serve a two-year term, helping guide the organization’s federal advocacy, governance and membership activities.
“Representation matters. By serving on the NLC Board of Directors, I’m proud to bring Avondale’s perspective forward on housing, infrastructure and community development, and advocate for solutions that strengthen growing cities like ours nationwide,” Solorio said.
The National League of Cities is the nation’s largest organization representing cities, towns and villages, along with their elected officials and municipal staff. The organization advocates for local government priorities by building partnerships with federal leaders. Board members are selected by a 15-member nominating committee and confirmed by a vote of the membership at the annual business meeting.
As a board member, Solorio will participate in meetings in March, June and November to help set the organization’s strategic direction.
“The Board of Directors creates the vision and direction for our more than 19,000 cities, towns and villages,” said Kevin Kramer, president of the National League of Cities and a Louisville, Kentucky, council member. “I am ready to work with this group of local leaders as we support strong and thriving communities across the country.”
More than 3,000 mayors, council members and delegates from nearly every state and the District of Columbia attended the 2025 City Summit in Salt Lake City.
Before her election to the board, Solorio served on the NLC Small Cities Council. She is also a board member of the NLC Women in Municipal Government caucus and a member of the NLC Hispanic Elected Local Officials caucus.
