MLS team LAFC welcome soccer legend Son Heung-min the club
Tottenham legend Son Heung-min is the latest highest profile signings in LAFC’s history following the footsteps of Carlos Vela, Gareth Bale and Olivier Giroud into the Hollywood spotlight.
MLS-record signing Son Heung-min scored his first LAFC goal with a tremendous free kick in the club’s 1-1 draw at FC Dallas on Saturday.
After Denis Bouanga was fouled by Christian Cappis in the attacking half, Son was able to find the top left corner with precision for the Black & Gold to take the lead six minutes into the match.
The LAFC celebrations were short-lived, though, with FC Dallas forward Logan Farrington finding the equalizer just seven minutes later.
With two goal contributions in his first three matches for LAFC, the South Korean star has had a fantastic start for his new club after spending 10 years with Tottenham.
“It’s been only…a little bit more than two weeks, but I’m enjoying every moment,” Son said after the match.
Despite grabbing a point away from home, Son was displeased about not securing three points at Toyota Stadium.
“I’m glad I scored the first goal for the MLS and also for LAFC. But for me, the most important thing is to get us three points. I’m really, really disappointed for that.”
Regardless, LAFC has been undefeated since Son played his first match against Chicago on Aug. 9 (1W-2D-0L), with all three battles being away from BMO Stadium.
Before the international break commences, LAFC finally returns home as it hosts Western Conference leader San Diego FC on Sunday.
Currently, the Black & Gold sit in fourth position in the conference, accumulating 41 points through 25 matches.
It is still early days, but Son’s arrival has brought rejuvenation into the squad as it aims to win its first MLS Cup title since 2022.
