Spirit Airlines is adding another seasonal nonstop flight between Reno and Southern California for the summer, this time for the city of San Diego.
Spirit announced that it will start nonstop Reno-San Diego flights starting on Aug. 14. The flights will run on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday through Sept. 2:
- Departing from San Diego International Airport at 8:16 a.m. and arriving at Reno-Tahoe International Airport at 9:46 a.m.
- Departing from Reno-Tahoe International Airport at 10:41 a.m. and arriving in San Diego International Airport at 12:17 p.m.
The Spirit Airlines booking site showed one-way flights starting at $56.
The new route serves travelers who want to visit popular places such as Lake Tahoe or Southern California’s beaches, according to Spirit.
“Reno and San Diego are both beautiful destinations,” said John Kirby, Spirit Airlines’ vice president of network planning. “Whether our guests are headed to the coast or the mountains, this route offers a convenient new way to explore and enjoy both cities.”
It is the second time that Spirit has added a seasonal nonstop flight to a Southern California destination for the summer. Last year, Spirit announced nonstop flights between Reno and Los Angeles during the same period. The flights to LAX resume this year from Aug. 13 to Sept. 3.
Spirit also has three daily flights between Reno and Las Vegas.
“This new (San Diego) route joins Spirit’s year-round nonstop to Las Vegas and the upcoming seasonal service to Los Angeles — both seasonal routes timed in support of the travel demand around one of our region’s largest annual events, Burning Man,” said Nicolle Staten, public affairs manager for the Reno-Tahoe International Airport.
“These added flights make it even easier for passengers to connect between our region and Southern California.”
