1. USA FACES GERMANY IN FINAL EXHIBITION GAME
After surviving an upset bid by South Sudan on Saturday, the US Men’s National Team will try to complete the five-game USA Basketball Showcase with an unblemished 5-0 record when the Americans face Germany from the O2 Arena in London (3 ET, FOX).
- Defending World Champs: Germany enters the matchup 3rd in FIBA’s world rankings after winning the 2023 FIBA World Cup – a run that included a win over the USA last summer
- Last Meeting: Germany snapped a six-game losing streak to the USA and got its first ever win over the Americans in World Cup or Olympic competition – a 113-111 upset to reach the World Cup Final
- NBA Experience: Germany’s roster features four current NBA players – Dennis Schroder (Nets), Daniel Theis (Pelicans), Franz Wagner (Magic) and Mo Wagner (Magic) – as well as one former NBA player in Isaac Bonga
- That experience showed last summer as Franz Wagner (22 pts, 5 reb), Theis (21 pts, 7 reb), Schroder (17 pts, 9 ast) and Mo Wagner (10 pts) combined for 70 points. Germany also got a game-high 24 pts from Andreas Obst, edging out USA’s Anthony Edwards (23)
- They’re Back: Germany carries over 10 players from its World Cup team, while only two members of the US Olympic team (Edwards and Tyrese Haliburton) played last summer
The Americans were back at practice on Sunday – including Kevin Durant, who has yet to suit up in the Showcase games due to a calf strain.
