Arctic blast grips US with dangerous snow and bitter cold
A “renewed surge of Arctic air” brings heavy snow, gusty winds and freezing temps to regions across the U.S., and hazardous travel conditions.
Temperatures are dropping fast in North Georgia, and while snow may have been wishful thinking a week ago, updated forecasts may have some more hope.
Cold weather is sweeping across the United States, including in the southeast where temperatures are expected to drop into the low 20s and teens going into the weekend.
Temperatures are expected to drop below 20 degrees in Atlanta tonight, but the highest snow potential isn’t for a few days.
Here’s the forecast for this weekend.

Friday is expecting a high of 52 with a low of 43 in Atlanta, according to The Weather Channel. Saturday has a high of 52 with a low of 27, and Sunday has a high of 40 with a low of 25.
Sunday has the highest precipitation potential with 18%, according to The Weather Channel.
Forecasts from Accuweather are very similar, with a high of 52 on Friday and a low of 41, a high of 51 on Saturday with a low of 27 and a high of 44 on Sunday with a low of 25. Accuweather puts the precipitation chance at 67% on Sunday.
Could Atlanta see snow this weekend?
The National Weather Service is monitoring a potential winter snowstorm through the weekend, including a 15-30% chance the region could see more than 1/2 inch of snow.
GFS weather models, or the Global Forecast System, show a potential storm moving across the southern United States with heavy rain over the Gulf and snow potential across Alabama, Georgia and into the Carolinas.
