It’s official: Corey Seager does not have a break in his wrist.
Rangers general manager Chris Young said Monday that an MRI on Seager’s left wrist “aligned” with initial X-rays and showed no fracture as a result of being hit by a 90 mph fastball on Saturday night in Baltimore. The Rangers do not plan to put him on the injured list, though it’s unclear exactly when he will return.
“We got good news there,” Young said on The Fan (KRLD-105.3 FM) Monday afternoon. “Sometimes, an X-ray doesn’t show anything and an MRI reveals a little more. But they aligned. They were clean. His return will be based on pain and swelling, so we feel like we dodged a bullet there.”
Seager was hit by a pitch by Baltimore’s Cade Povich in the fifth inning Saturday and immediately crumpled to the ground, cradling the left wrist against his body. He left the field before athletic trainers could even get to him. An X-ray at Orioles Park showed no break, but Seager remained “pretty sore” on Sunday and the Rangers wanted to have him further examined.
Josh Jung’s return is on hold. Young said the third baseman still has some inflammation in the tendon in his surgically-repaired right wrist.
“That inflammation still hasn’t calmed down,” Young said on the radio. “Hopefully, he will turn a corner in the next couple of days. We desperately need him, but we’re not there yet.”
