ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – On Bells Ferry Road in Acworth, The Happy Taco has reason to be sad after failing a routine health inspection.
The Cobb County Mexican restaurant scored 53 points and a “U” for unsatisfactory. The report says there was no food thermometer at the facility to make sure food was safe to eat. Plus, raw beef was stored in a container with ready-to-eat food, creating a cross-contamination concern. And the report says employees are not properly trained in food safety.
Atlanta News First made several attempts to locate a manager at the restaurant who could answer our questions but kept getting the runaround.
Finally, an employee came out of the kitchen and got the manager on the phone.
“Everything is being addressed, everything is being fixed, everything is being handled,” the Happy Taco Manager Alexander Garcia said.
A good score in Fulton County: Nikolai’s Roof on Courtland Street in downtown Atlanta did very well, earning 95 points and an “A” on a routine inspection.
And at South City Kitchen in Vinings, they earned an “A” and 100 points on their last health inspection.
“Congratulations, they are the winner of this week’s Golden Spatula award,” Adam Murphy, Atlanta News First senior reporter, said.
They serve southern food with a modern twist. Yelp ranked their fried chicken fifth best in the nation. Also on the menu, you can enjoy fried green tomatoes, peach salad, pork chop, trout, shrimp and grits and the fried chicken meal over the mashed potatoes with the collard greens.
“Boy, that’s good,” Murphy said.
