HOUSTON – (Realty News Report) – Commercial real estate veteran Travis Overall has left Brookfield Properties to lead the Cushman & Wakefield in Houston.
In his new role as Houston Managing Principal, Overall will lead Cushman & Wakefield’s advisory business in Houston, where the firm has more than 250 employees, including 60 brokers, and a property management portfolio of 34 million SF.
“Travis is an extraordinary fit to lead Cushman & Wakefield in Houston,” said Chris Hipps, Cushman & Wakefield Executive Regional Director in Texas. “He’s a respected leader and a true example of our commitment to strategic growth in the region and across Texas.”
Overall joins Cushman & Wakefield from Brookfield Properties, where he served as Executive Vice President for the firm’s Houston office business and had oversight for all aspects of the region’s activities, including leasing, operations, property management, legal, accounting, development and construction.
At Brookfield, Overall was in charge of a large office portfolio, which included downtown’s 4.2 million SF Houston Center and the 3.2 million SF Allen Center and other significant downtown properties. Brookfield’s office complexes, which were constructed primarily in the 1980s, were redeveloped during Overall’s tenure. Brookfield’s total redevelopment budget, including the transformation of a DoubleTree Hotel in the C. Baldwin Hotel – Curio Collection, was estimated at more than $250 million. Although the total redevelopment cost has never been disclosed, it resulted in an extensive upgrade to the built environment in Downtown Houston.
Prior to joining Brookfield in 2017, Overall spent 19 years with Hines, where he was responsible for the acquisition, disposition, development and management of commercial real estate valued at over $2 billion.
The leadership change at Cushman & Wakefield is one of a widespread rotation of top leaders at Houston’s commercial real estate giants. In the last six months top leaders were installed at CBRE, JLL, Transwestern and Partners Real Estate.
Last year, Clint Bawcom, who had led Cushman & Wakefield’s Houston office for four years, joined the Transwestern Real Estate Services to lead that firm’s Houston operations.
Cushman & Wakefield has operated in Houston for about 55 years.
Lou Cushman opened the global company’s first office in Houston in 1971. His grandfather, J. Clydesdale Cushman, and great uncle, Bernard Wakefield, founded Cushman & Wakefield in New York City in 1917.
“Cushman & Wakefield has an incredible legacy in the Houston market, and I am proud to join the firm and carry it forward,” said Overall. “Houston, Texas, and Cushman & Wakefield are all on growth trajectories and I look forward to helping propel Cushman & Wakefield further in Houston by attracting the very best talent in the industry.”
Overall is a past President of the Houston NAIOP chapter and he serves on a number of boards for civic organizations and charities. Overall received his BBA from the University of Texas and his MBA from the University of Houston.
