Buffalo Sabres legends Thomas Vanek and Jason Pominville have been announced as the next additions to the team’s hall of fame. The two forwards are set to become the 45th and 46th members.
They will be inducted next season.
The announcement came Thursday as the Sabres celebrated the 20th anniversary of their 2005-06 team that reached the Eastern Conference finals. Among the alumni on hand were goalie Ryan Miller, who surprised Vanek and Pominville by announcing they were to be inducted in the Buffalo Sabres Hall of Fame.
Pominville, a second-round draft pick in 2001, played for Buffalo from 2005 to 2013 and returned for a second stint to end his career, ranks eighth in franchise history in games played (733), 10th in goals (217), and eighth in both assists (304) and points (521).
Vanek, the fifth-overall pick in 2003, ranks fifth in franchise history with 254 goals.
