Eagles Jaelan Phillips on his strip-sack on Bills Josh Allen
Eagles DE Jaelan Phillips on team’s 13-12 win over the Bills and his strip-sack of QB Josh Allen
PHILADELPHIA − The Eagles are going into the final day of the regular season with little clarity on their wildcard round opponent.
That’s because the Seattle Seahawks 13-3 victory over the San Francisco 49ers on Jan. 3 did not reduce the possible playoff opponents for the Eagles. They can still face the 49ers, Los Angeles Rams or Green Bay Packers when the playoffs begin the weekend of Jan. 10-12.
The Eagles (11-5) are currently the No. 3 seed in the NFC playoffs heading into their game against the Washington Commanders on Jan. 4. But they have a chance to move up to the No. 2 seed with a win coupled with a Chicago Bears loss to the Detroit Lions.

If the Eagles do move up to the No. 2 seed, they will face the Packers (9-6-1), who are locked into the No. 7 seed.
If the Eagles stay at the No. 3 seed, they will face either the Rams (11-5) or the 49ers (12-5). The 49ers’ loss to the Seahawks means that Seattle clinched the No. 1 overall seed.
If the Rams beat the Arizona Cardinals (3-13) on Jan. 4, they will move up to the No. 5 seed and the 49ers will drop to No. 6 and face the Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field. If the Rams lose, then the 49ers would be the No. 5 seed, and the Eagles would face the Rams in Philly.
How Eagles have fared vs Rams
The Eagles are very familiar with the Rams, who have lost their last two games, over these two seasons. They beat the Rams 33-26 on Sept. 21 in Philadelphia.
In that game, the Eagles trailed 26-7 in the third quarter and came back to take a 27-26 lead. But the Rams were lined up to kick a game-winning field goal with 2 seconds left. Jordan Davis blocked the field goal, picked up the loose ball and ran it back for a touchdown as time expired.
The Eagles also faced the Rams twice last season, beating them 37-20 on Nov. 24, 2024 in Los Angeles. The Eagles also beat the Rams 28-22 in the divisional round last Jan. 19 at Lincoln Financial Field.
How Eagles have fared vs Packers
The Eagles also played the Packers this season, beating them 10-7 in Green Bay on Nov. 10. That game took place before star Green Bay edge rusher Micah Parsons was lost for the season with a torn ACL. The Packers have lost three straight games. They close against the Minnesota Vikings on Jan. 4.
The Eagles also faced the Packers twice in 2024, beating them 34-29 on Sept. 5 in Sao Paulo, Brazil, then again 22-10 in the wild card round last Jan. 12 in Philadelphia.
How the Eagles fared vs the 49ers
The Eagles didn’t play the 49ers this season. Their last meeting was on Dec. 3, 2023 in Philadelphia. The 49ers beat the Eagles 42-19. That was the start of a tailspin in which the Eagles lost six of their final seven games, including their first-round playoff loss.
This time, the 49ers are reeling. They had to play all of their starters against the Seahawks because the No. 1 seed with the first-round bye was at stake. The 49ers were already banged up on defense, with star edge rusher Nick Bosa and linebacker Fred Warner already out for the season.
By losing, the 49ers will have to travel for the first round.
