Ohio State was without starting right guard Tegra Tshabola during the second half of the Big Ten championship and will likely be without Tshabola for the Cotton Bowl against Miami on Dec. 31.
Tshabola started each of Ohio State’s 13 games this season, including the title game against Indiana. He failed to finish out the matchup, with redshirt sophomore Gabe VanSickle going in as Tshabola’s primary replacement on the offensive line.
Following the championship, Ohio State coach Ryan Day stated it would “probably be a little while” for Tshabola to return to game action. No details regarding Tshabola’s apparent injury have been disclosed, though Tshabola was seen at the Buckeyes‘ open practice on Dec. 26 in uniform with a brace on his right knee and wrap on his right ankle.
Will Tegra Tshabola play vs. Miami?
Tshabola was listed as doubtful on the injury report released on Dec. 28, which Day indicated would be the case a week earlier.
What Ryan Day has said about Tegra Tshabola’s injury
Along with Day indicating that Tshabola would miss playing time, the Buckeyes coach added that the team is taking Tshabola’s situation “as it goes.”
Who will fill in at starting right guard for Ohio State without Tegra Tshabola?
According to Day, VanSickle and junior Joshua Padilla will be rotating at the right guard position while Tshabola is out. VanSickle has appeared in five games this season, while Padilla has seen action in 10 games.
