BOSTON – In its penultimate regular season road contest of the 2024 campaign, the Boston University women’s soccer program travels to Holy Cross for a Turnpike Trophy match on Wednesday (Oct. 16). Opening kick is set for 7 p.m.
BU (2-7-5, 2-0-3 PL) looks to uphold its unbeaten Patriot League record while improving its 1-0-2 road record against conference opponents. The Terriers have allowed just one goal in four of its five league matches.
Holy Cross (5-8-1, 2-2-1 PL) looks to halt its three-match winless streak while sitting two points behind the Terriers in the Patriot League table. Three of the Crusaders’ next four games take place in Worcester, Mass.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- BU went on the road and secured a 1-1 draw at Lafayette on Saturday (Oct. 12).
- After falling behind in the seventh minute, junior Giulianna Gianino knotted the score in the 75th minute.
- With the tally, Gianino moved into 12th place all-time in career goals and a tie for 16th place in career points at BU.
- Freshman Olivia Avellar had the primary assist on the goal, her first-career point. She went on to receive an honorable mention in the Patriot League weekly awards on Monday (Oct. 14).
- After picking up the secondary assist on the goal, graduate student Lily Matthews became the fourth Terrier in 2024 to register multiple assists. She joins Gianino, sophomore Samantha Aronson, and freshman Juliana Osterman.
- The Terriers have recorded 11 draws since the start of the 2023 season. Last year’s six ties set a single-season program record.
- BU’s 12 goals and 28 corner kicks during conference play pace the Patriot League.
- Freshman goalkeeper Bridget Carr ranks third in the league with 4.4 saves per conference contest, and fourth with a .786 save percentage.
SCOUTING HOLY CROSS
- The Crusaders enter Wednesday’s match on a two-game losing streak, falling at Bucknell on Oct. 5 (1-0) and at Lehigh on Oct. 12 (3-2).
- Four of Holy Cross’ five wins this year took place at home.
- Ava Graham leads the Crusaders with six points, and is one of three Crusaders with a team-high two goals. Netminder Julia Walsh has appeared in 12 of 14 games this season to the tune of a 0.96 goals-against average with a .807 save percentage.
- Holy Cross was projected to finish 10th in the Patriot League preseason poll.
- Last year, the Crusaders tallied a 5-7-5 record, finishing 2-4-3 against Patriot League foes.
