Many Hispanic- or Latino-owned businesses are located in the New Caney and Porter area, including coffee shops, barbershops and eateries. Read through the list below for places to visit in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month and beyond.

This list is not comprehensive.

Houston-based insurance agency, AJ Morales Insurance, offers personal insurance—including auto, home and life policies—as well as commercial insurance. The company’s employees are bilingual and able to assist potential customers in Spanish.

Birria Box, a food truck owned by Cristhian Rodriguez, has a menu with quesabirria tacos, tortas, Tapatio ramen, aguas frescas and freshly-squeezed lemonade. The business became mobile in September, sometimes parking along FM 1314 in Porter. A schedule for the business is available on its Instagram page.ByThePour Mobile Bartending Service—co-owned by Michaela Ramirez and Caleb LeJeune—offers a complete dry hire service, meaning the only items the bartending service cannot provide per Texas law are the liquor, beer and wine, LeJeune said. ByThePour provides everything else, including the bar, ice, sodas, mixers and garnishes.

Cavalino barbershop provides haircuts for adults and kids in Porter. Hair designs and beard trims are also offered.Cinco Vidas Coffee Company, a walk-in mobile coffee trailer based in Porter, offers a variety of beverages using freshly roasted Mexican whole bean coffee. Owned by husband and wife Brandon and Stephanie Leyva, the business also sells hot and iced coffee and espresso-based beverages; matcha-based beverages; energy drinks; teas; lemonades; and baked goods.El Big Boy food truck serves tacos, tortas, barbecue sandwiches and more in New Caney.The Elotito Stop offers Mexican snacks, drinks and desserts in Porter. Frescas con crema, ice cream, mini pancakes and nachos are some of the staple menu items at the food trailer.Veteran- and Hispanic-owned barber shop, Legendary Cuts, recently opened in New Caney. The business offers barber services, including adult and kids’ haircuts, hair designs, hot towel shaves, and beard and eyebrow trimming.Lunas Coffee and Tea, owned by Daniela Castro, offers a variety of drinks such as hot and iced coffee, protein coffee, specialty lattes, matcha and lemonade. All of the shop’s coffee is sourced from family-owned farms on the outskirts of Colombia, Castro said.MIMIIS is a Latina-owned jewelry and accessories shop in New Caney. Owned by Noemi Herrera, the store sells jewelry, purses, mugs, teas and beauty supplies, according to MIMIIS social media page.In Porter, Sotitos Child Care offers care options for infants up to 13-year-old children. The business is state-licensed with staff members who are CPR- and first-aid-certified and have undergone background checks.Taqueria La Indomable—a food truck—operates at The Food Zone in Porter. The business serves tacos, quesadillas, burritos, tortas and baked potatoes as well as sodas and aguas naturales such as horchata, jamaica and limonade.Jovanna Aguilar and Hannah Brol contributed to this report.
