Work on transforming the empty IBC Centre Tower I into a JW Marriott will begin in July. The conversion costs are estimated at $164 million. The San Antonio Business Journal reports that the 280,000-square-foot office, now owned by IBC Bank, will be converted into a 300-unit hotel.
The bank could also build an additional structure next to the existing building for parking, a rooftop pool and other amenities.
HKS Architects & Designers and SWA Group are leading the project’s design. Operations at the hotel will be overseen by Dimension Hospitality, which also manages the Embassy Suites by Hilton San Antonio Riverwalk Downtown.
Work is expected to finish in the spring of 2028.
Other San Antonio hotel activity includes Zachry Corp., which recently opened The Monarch San Antonio, a 200-key property in Hemisfair. Trestle Studio is working toward reopening a revamped Sítio El Tropicano this fall after a years-long closure.
