Boston police said one person was killed and a second person injured in a daytime shooting Friday in a residential neighborhood in Mattapan. It was the latest shooting in a string of gun violence scattered across several neighborhoods in Boston over the Fourth of July holiday. A total of seven people were struck by gunfire, killing two people.Investigators and prosecutors are asking the public for information about the crimes.”We didn’t declare victory during the dip in shootings and homicides in Boston and we won’t declare defeat during a spike. What we will do is focus ever harder on what works: smart policing, effective prosecutions and deep community involvement,” District Attorney Kevin Hayden said in a statement. “After the violence we saw on Friday we need community involvement more than ever. I urge anyone with information about these incidents to contact police.”The latest incident happened just before 12:30 p.m. Friday near the intersection of Gladeside Ave. and Donwood Terrace in a tree-lined residential section of Mattapan. When police arrived, they found a man and woman inside of a vehicle suffering from gunshot wounds. Police said both victims were transported to Boston area hospitals. The man, whose name was not immediately released, was pronounced dead at the hospital. Police said the woman suffered non-life-threatening injuries. A man was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.Neighbor Nisha Torres said she heard 6 to 7 shots while she and her baby were trying to sleep. “I jumped out of bed. It just didn’t sound like fireworks at all,” Torres said. “The shootings, they just never stop.
