We know the question on your mind, Boston — when’s it going to cool down? Thanks to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Climate Prediction Center, we know what temperatures and precipitation trends to expect in our city for these summer months. While exact weather conditions typically can’t be predicted more than a week in advance, here’s a seasonal outlook to help you prepare for what summer will bring.

The good news is the summer solstice passed this week, so we will be inching towards fall before we know it.

Things are just heating up for the summer in the city.

🌡️ Temperature

Think warm thoughts. This summer, Boston has a 50-60% chance of temperatures being higher than normal.

🌨️ Precipitation

As far as rain goes, it’s anyone’s guess. Boston has a 40-50% chance of seeing higher than average rainfall amounts this summer.

July

In Boston, we can typically expect July temperatures to stay around 80° for the high and the mid-60s for the lows. If you love a New England summer, we have some good news — expect an average of 15 hours of daylight a day. Conditions will be consistent with last year’s weather, with hopefully fewer rainy weekends. Pro tip: September has an average daily maximum UV index of 8, so don’t slack on the sunscreen.

August

In August, the average high and low temps are between 65° and 81°. If it’s anything like last year, things will get muggy, so plan for warmer, humid days. Don’t put up your seasonal clothes yet, light layers will be key with cooler mornings that will heat up.

September

Relief is on the horizon — the average highs in September drop to 73° and an average low is 58°. With early signs of fall, we can keep an eye out for the signs of seasonal foliage, crisp mornings, and sunny days.

Make the most of the sunny days

There’s no shortage of things to do in Boston this summer. Here are just a few of the activities not to miss.
