The 49ers this weekend completed a deal with the player who was considered the most likely of the team’s scheduled free agents to re-sign.
Kicker Eddy Piñeiro remains with the 49ers on a four-year, $17 million contract, according to his agents and confirmed through other league sources.
The 49ers top scheduled free agent is wide receiver Jauan Jennings, who is eyeing a massive new deal.
Jennings will officially hit free agency on Monday at 9 a.m. PT, when all teams can enter into contract negotiations with players on expiring contracts.
The 49ers and Jennings did not come to an agreement throughout last offseason, so Jennings’ agent will get an opportunity to officially weigh contract offers for his client this week.
Upon the conclusion of the 2025 NFL season, Jennings spoke like a man who seemed to acknowledge it was the end of the line with the team that selected him in the seventh round of the 2020 NFL Draft.
“A run I’ll never forget, for sure,” Jennings said on the day the 49ers gathered to clear out their lockers at Levi’s Stadium.
The 49ers have an estimated $35 million in salary-cap space, according to OverTheCap.com. They have the resources to be active on the free-agent market while also targeting some of their own free agents.
That list includes such defensive linemen as Jordan Elliott, Clelin Ferrell, Yetur Gross-Matos and Kevin Givens, none of whom is expected to land a big-money contract on the open market.
At another position of need, the 49ers can be expected to add a veteran wide receiver or two.
Skyy Moore and Kendrick Bourne are scheduled for free agency, but the 49ers might be inclined to make a move for someone from the outside, such as Green Bay’s Romeo Doubs.
Doubs, 25, is an ascending player who comes from a similar system with the Packers. He was a consistent performer in his first four NFL seasons. Doubs caught 55 passes for 724 yards (13.2 yards per reception) and six touchdowns last season.
The 49ers also have a hole to fill on the offensive line at left guard, where Ben Bartch and Spencer Burford combined to start 13 games. Both Bartch and Burford are scheduled for unrestricted free agency.
San Francisco will look to add players with special-teams value, too. Pro Bowl special teamer Luke Gifford is scheduled for free agency, as is 40-year-old punter Thomas Morstead.
